Hi all! Please enjoy this article from Kelly at Roots and Wings Preschool in Thousand Oaks. They get our large weekly CSA box and turn it into a learning and healthy adventure for their students. Thank you Kelly for these healthy options for young children!!
We love the late summer season produce coming in our CSA box! Curious how to get those healthy fruits and veggies into your kids? Try these easy and fun snacks that we came up with here at Roots & Wings Preschool!
This week we made:
- a yummy bell pepper octopus,
- a diced bell pepper egg scramble, and
- baked bean & cheese bell pepper skins
And it doesn’t stop there. We also rounded up close to 20 recipes to use our peppers, cucumbers, green beans and plums. Check ‘em out here … they are all so easy you don’t even need a recipe! http://www.rootsandwingspreschool.com/august-kid-friendly-healthy-snacks/
The CSA box is such a cool part of our week. The students love unpacking the produce. Each week, we learn about a new food that is in season. We read books about the food, investigate how it grows, do taste tests and cook with it, of course! Our students, parents and teachers love how the CSA program connects farm, food and community! Cheers!
